Fashion and Style are not the same I'd rather have style than be in fashion.

This blog is a scrapbook not a novel and it represents what I have done and will do.

“Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary.”

Mannequin Test Shoot

Today I was out and about early photographing with my 35mm at the market when I found a full length Mannequin. Carrying a mannequin through town raises quite a few eyebrows. I then spoke to Adam to announce my find. We had the studio booked for 4pm so this was perfect timing. In the studio we use a Dedo Light Kit with different filter sheets.
The filter sheets we used were: RED/GREEN
RED
RED/PURPLE
BLUE - Which I think would work better with a darker lip colour
YELLOW
And the actual lighting without a filter.
I used a shutter speed of 1/25 and 1/15 with an apeture of 4.5.

I think it is very scary how real the mannequin looks. But I think this is a good thing as I would want her to look like a doll as this has been done so many times before. I like the idea of an illusion. To make people take a second look.

Masks

Masks could be an alternative option with our current idea. I love using masks in images they are playful yet can sometimes be striking. When using masks the model has to compensate with the body. I have used masks for previous shoots and it can make the shoot take a whole new level.

I only discovered Volt magazine recently but managed to get a copy in essentials today whilst i was on a break from a guest speaker Daniel Meadows. The images in this magazine are really creative especially the makeup and lighting.

Montage

Putting the images into a sequence gives them a sense of narrative.

Photoshoot and makeup test.

To create a mannequin look I used the following for the make up.
Barry M white foundation.
NYC Loose transparent powder.
Urban Decay Eyeshadow.
Rimmel Red Lipstick and lip liner.
Rimmel Liquid eyeliner and mascara in black.
The lighting used was unnatural with assistance of a flash gun(SB-600).
This was a good test for the make up durability and this is why i incorporated movement in the face.

Helmet Newton

Helmet Newton is a great reference point with regards to our mannequin/consumerism idea. Newton was critisized for his images of women. Some said it was pornography. I think Newton shows women as strong beautiful women that are a force to be reckoned with. The nudity isnt about sex its about strength and power.

This image has really inspired me for the project. I will try to create this type of image within this module or for another assignment.
I dont think it will be easy but if i get result like these images that would be amazing.

Nigel Tomm

The photography of Nigel Tomm is really creative and captivating. His collection of work shows crumpled photographs put in position cleverly with a live model.
His photography distorts the look of celebrities and therefore gives us a whole new perspective with the view of fashion and beauty.

Women on display for the purpose of fashion - are we all walking mannequins?

Idea

Consumerist society and the mass reproduction of clothes within the fashion industry.
From Barbara Kruger to images I have found on celebrity websites. Are we worth what our clothes are worth? Is style still important?

Our Object.

Photograph Taken By Marie Benli.
An old matchbox is our object to incorporate for our next shoot.
It is really interesting that one of the matches is broken.
I think it will be interesting to incorporate the nostalgia of the age and the colours of the matchbox into a fashion shoot.
